Here are six animals that can survive without drinking water:
Kangaroo Rat:
- Found in North America, this small rodent gets all the moisture it needs from the seeds it eats. It rarely drinks water and instead relies on metabolic water produced during digestion.
Thorny Devil:
- This Australian lizard absorbs water through its skin. Even in arid conditions, it can collect moisture from dew and rain by channeling it directly to its mouth through grooves in its skin.
Desert Tortoise:
- Found in the deserts of North America, the desert tortoise stores water in its bladder and can survive for a year or more without drinking. It gets moisture from the plants it eats.
Koala:
- Native to Australia, koalas primarily get their water from eucalyptus leaves, their main diet. They rarely drink water, relying on the moisture content in the leaves.
Jerboa:
- This desert rodent, found in North Africa and Asia, doesn’t drink water at all. It derives water from the food it eats, such as seeds and plants, and its body is adapted to extract moisture efficiently.
Fogstand Beetle:
- Found in the Namib Desert, this beetle collects water from fog by standing with its body angled upwards, allowing condensation to roll down into its mouth.
